This is awesome. We have a 100 series (The Gray Wolf) that was our primary adventuremobile for a decade before getting a truck. As you describe, it's far from perfection, but its perfect. Simple. Goes anywhere and everywhere we've ever asked. My favorite thing about the old land cruisers apart fro the no nonsense mechanics is the tailgate. Countless picnics have happened right there. One of the only vehicles I've never gotten stuck in! Fantastic read. Thanks!

Yes. Hopefully it doesn’t cost as much to maintain

Over a decade of Land Cruiser ownership - most years I have to fix something. But I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $1000 in a year and most years it’s considerably less. And the beauty of these is that once fixed, Land Cruiser parts are stout, you won’t likely have to fix it again for a very long time (if ever). Also,

After a decade + and 120k miles I could sell this for nearly what I paid. Yes gas is $$ but conversely insurance is cheap. And reliability is worth its own price. Overall I think the cost of ownership is super reasonable. But they are 20+ years old and will ask a little bit from their owners.

120k memorable miles I’m sure too. A lot of the maintenance I’ve done so far is because I’m picky about what’s “good enough” on an older vehicle whose history with me is relatively short.. so I’d rather go through a couple things now and get everything to a solid baseline for peace of mind.

A boy and his toys. The same little boy at 3 who’s role on the “truck road” was telling me all the types of cars we’d pass.
